PMAV: An Important Tool for Landholders

PMAV stands for Property Map of Assessable Vegetation.

Vegetation mapping undertaken by the Queensland Government is continually being updated, and new vegetation management laws can also change over time. Because of this, landholders are encouraged to know what vegetation is mapped on their property. If you have white areas (known as non-remnant areas or previously cleared areas) on your property that you want to keep white, the best way to do this is to have a PMAV completed to ‘lock in’ the white areas on your property. Once the white areas are locked in, these cannot change when vegetation mapping is updated by the Queensland Government. The PMAV protects these areas especially if vegetation regrows in these areas over time.

The Queensland Government bought in new vegetation regrowth guidelines and mapping in 2019 which protects areas of high-value regrowth from clearing activities. So there is potential that your property mapping has changed recently. If you are worried that you have areas on your property that have regrown and hence may now be mapped for protection as ‘regrowth’ vegetation, please get in touch and we can assist you in getting an updated map of the vegetation on your property and complete a PMAV on your behalf if required.

PMAVs can also be important if you have incorrect vegetation mapping on your property, for example an area may have previously been cleared legally, yet the mapping shows regulated vegetation to be present. If this is the case, or you would like Trend to check your property for irregularities when it comes to the vegetation mapping on your property, please get in touch and one of our ecologists can advise you and assist with your PMAV application to get these areas of vegetation mapping corrected for your property.
