Developments Requiring Vegetation Clearing
Did you know that subdivisions that require the need to clear of native vegetation trigger a referral to the State Government?
This referral requires the consideration of impacts on the following values:
Wetlands
Watercourses
Vegetation Connectivity
Soil erosion
Salinity
Endangered and of concern regional ecosystems
Essential habitat for threatened species
Acid sulfate soils
When you engage an Ecologist to complete the referral documentation, they are required to assess the proposed development against the acceptable outcomes (or minimum requirements) for each of the above values. These acceptable outcomes dictate things like ‘no clearing’ buffer zones along watercourses and wetlands, and maximum clearing areas and widths per property. Often these acceptable outcomes can be tricky to meet, especially for the vegetation connectivity value.
Fortunately, there are still ways to get the project approved if your subdivision is not designed in a way that meets the acceptable outcomes. Trend Environmental’s consultants are experienced in these tricky development applications and can work with you to get your development approved with minimal or no design changes. We understand the ins and outs of the legislation so you don’t have to.
